The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) released a statement this week responding to accusations from watchdog NGO SeaChoice, stating that "SeaChoice’s criticism of the latest changes to the ASC Salmon Standard includes misleading inaccuracies and seeks to preemptively undermine the progress that will be made in addressing sea lice with the new approach."

The two have disagreed about an amendment introduced by the ASC on July 11 regarding the use of the parasiticide treatment index (PTI) for the management of sea lice, which has been revoked so that farms are judged based on best practice in their geographic area and then allowed to remain certified until they meet the required global standard.
