Icelandic salmon farmer Arctic Fish is investing in building up a "core integrated model" -- from hatchery to sea farming to processing -- in a bid to strengthen its position as a serious player in the global salmon market.

The company -- in which Norway Royal Salmon acquired a 50 percent stake in August -- is working on a three-phase expansion of a recirculation aquaculture system (RAS) hatchery in Tálknafjördur, Iceland.

"It will be the main foundation of our future development," Sigurdur Petursson, founder and CEO of Artic Fish, told IntraFish.
