AquaBounty's genetically modified salmon is going through a new federal risk assessment, Canada's CBC News reports.

The company notified the government in July about its plans to build a new egg production and grow-out facility in Rollo Bay West.

AquaBounty Technologies now plans to produce 250 metric tons of its trademarked AquAdvantage salmon for commercial sale in Canada and export.

The plans will undergo an assessment similar to the one on the company's egg production in Bay Fortune.

The new review will be based on the latest information to determine whether there is a risk to human health or the environment from the fish.

It will go ahead despite AquaBounty's genetically modified salmon having already been approved for sale to Canadian consumers, the report said.
