Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Bernadette Jordan's announcement ahead of the Christmas holiday that the Canadian government would phase out salmon farming in British Columbia's Discovery Islands is continuing to draw harsh criticism from the province's elected officials, as well as residents who rely on salmon farming in the region for their livelihood.

On Thursday two conservative members of parliament (MPs) for Canada's West Coast asked for Jordan to provide a plan for the transition, citing the ongoing lack of communication with her office over the sudden move to close the operations by June 2022.
