A change in tone? Canada's complete transition away from netpen salmon farms by 2025 is looking less likely

Canada's salmon farming industry is growing more hopeful that the country's finfish transition plan announced in 2019 will not likely result in a transition entirely away from netpen salmon farms when the plan is finalized in 2023.

While Canada Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray has not necessarily backed down on using language to describe the country's plan as a "transition from" netpen salmon farming, she has also not made it clear what Western Canada will be transitioning to, either.

Murray's office declined several requests from IntraFish when asked for specifics on her transition plan.
