Seafood analysts are unfazed by Grieg Seafood's news of becoming the first major 'traditional' net-pen farmer to enter the land-based salmon farming space, seeing it more as a build-up of the company's already existing post-smolt strategy.

The joint venture, which will see an initial production of 2,000 metric tons of full-grown fish in a 5,000 metric ton capacity farm in southern Norway, has ambitions to expand to 15,000 metric tons in the future, Grieg CEO Andreas Kvame told IntraFish, although he refrained to give a timescale for such an expansion.
