"Important gaps" remain in Thailand's fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, according to the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) in response to the recent lifting of the EU's yellow card on the Thai seafood industry.

There have been significant and substantial improvements in Thailand’s monitoring, surveillance, and enforcement capabilities, said EJF, who has worked closely with the industry to improve practices. But EJF also found "lingering shortcomings" that prevent Thailand’s fishing industry from becoming truly ethical and sustainable, it said.
