Aker BioMarine secured a Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for the third year in a row, signifying that its krill fishery, Antarctic Southern Ocean Krill, is sustainable under the eco-label certifier guidelines.
The recent independent assessment report noted that Aker BioMarine's key sustainability strengths include the minimum amount of bycatch, its observer coverage on vessels and active partnerships with NGOs.
The new MSC certification will validate the Aker BioMarine fishery for the next five years.
The company was initially certified in 2010, being the first krill company to carry the MSC label.
