French salmon and trout producer AMP Saumon de France said branded oak smoked trout produced at its aquaponic sites are headed for the shelves of major retailers.
The 100-gram packs containing three slices of smoked trout produced in Cherbourg and Acquigny under the Normandie Truite brand, will go on sale at stores operated by Carrefour, Systeme U, Auchan, Grand Frais, Casino, Monoprix, Intermarche and Leclerc.
In announcing the listings, Pascal Goumain, who heads AMP Saumon de France, said aquaponic production is a way "to implement concrete measures and contribute efficiently to resolving the planet's problems."
