Icelandic fishing and processing firm Samherji will invest more than €20 million ($24.6 million) to buy processing machinery for its new plant in Dalvik and to upgrade its existing plant in Akureyri.

Equipment supplier Valka nabbed the contract and installations will start in summer in Akureyri and continue at the new plant in Dalvik next year.

Valka expects the machinery to be ready for use around mid-year. The company described the deal as the "single largest contract ever negotiated in the groundfish processing industry."
