Four new surimi plants will have opened up in India the course of a single year, a sign of the continuing global potential for the product.

The companies -- Ulka, Gadre Marine, Authentic Ocean Treasure (AOT) and Yashashwi -- are plowing ahead despite a notable lack of tropical surimi raw material, Future Seafood Asia Director Shivram Warrior told IntraFish.

The new facilities are earmarked for the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bangalore, and each will have a capacity of 80 metric tons to 120 metric tons per day.
