Mowi postpones decision on new Norway facility

The aquaculture giant currently has five facilities in Norway.

Mowi is currently in the process of looking at investing in a new processing site in Hitra, Norway.

Last week, three top executives visited Hitra to announce the status of their plans, but the company is asking for more time to make an investment decision, reports Hitra-Frøya.

A company spokesperson said that Mowi needs more time to test out the necessary technology and until these results are available, Mowi will not be making a final decision.

"If we are to build new, it must be the world's best and most forward-looking factory," said head of Mowi's international aquaculture business, Per-Roar Gjerde. "We are now working closely with the suppliers. This is a big investment and we need the time well for testing and to get a good case up to the board."

Mowi recently installed new slaughter machines at its factories in Ulvan and Eggesbones, two of the aquaculture giant's five plants in Norway.

The factory at Ulvan also launched a new filleting line this year.
