VIDEO: Labeyrie scrambles for sushi supply after devastating fire

Production will be shut down for 'indeterminate' time.

Delpierre's sushi factory in Capécure, Boulogne, has been devasted by a fire that broke out Wednesday, reported local French media.

Still assessing the damage, the priority of owner Labeyrie Fine Foods is to restart production in Boulogne as quickly as possible, reported La Voix du Nord.

But for now, a return to normal activity is impossible, with, among other damage, all raw material destroyed.

The fire broke out Wednesday morning and was not under control until the middle of the afternoon. There were no injuries among the 60 staff who work at the plant, but there is "enormous" material damage, according to another report from La Voix du Nord.

Since 2011, Delpierre has produced 350 metric tons of sushi a year at the northern port city site.

In September Delpierre said it would reduce the size of its Boulogne-sur-Mer-based sushi distribution arm.
