Marine Harvest listeria incident a ‘sporadic contamination’
Carrefour France issued a national recall of the product.
Carrefour France's recall of a batch of smoked salmon supplied by Marine Harvest’s Kritsen Cuisery plant due to the detection of listeria was the result of a “sporadic contamination," Margreet van Harn, communications director at Marine Harvest in Western Europe, told IntraFish.
Marine Harvest organized the recall following internal checks at the plant as a precautionary measure. The affected volumes are just under 400 kilograms, van Harn said.
The retailer recalled the product across France but it does not buy any salmon from the affected plant in any other location, a spokesperson told IntraFish.
The Kritsen Cuisery plant is a slicing and packing facility that also supplies French retailers Leclerc, Systeme and Francap, but does not supply any clients outside of France.
“The recall concerns only one plant in France, which is slicing and packing smoked salmon,” van Harn said.
There have not yet been any reports on health issues resulting from ingestion of the product, van Harn said, and it is not known if other retailers will also issue a recall.
“Marine Harvest Kritsen is in touch with the French authorities and customers involved and it is taking all necessary actions,” she said.
Meanwhile, Carrefour advised customers to return or destroy the product if they are in possession of the affected batches.
Earlier this year, Marine Harvest's Kritsen smoked salmon plant in Landivisau was destroyed by a fire and the company recently announced it has demolished it and transferred operations to other locations in France and other countries.
