Laurent Vichard, former commercial director at leading French processor Ocealliance, has joined retail giant Carrefour as its seafood market director.

The move marks a return to Carrefour for Vichard, who was employed as a fish buyer for the supermarket group between 1998 and 2004.

"Very happy to join Francois Vincent's teams within Carrefour to continue the tremendous work undertaken by Gaetan de Lamberterie and his seafood team," the executive said in a Linkedin post.

Vichard left Ocealliance just over a year ago, after which the processor was forced to lay off half of its 500-strong workforce with five of its divisions deep in the red.

In the intervening period he worked as operations director at Fruits Union.
