Arni Mathiesen, assistant director-general and head of fisheries and aquaculture at the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) is leaving its headquarters in Rome to take a role as chairman of a new Icelandic government company overseeing transport infrastructure investments.

Mathiesen has been with FAO's fisheries and aquaculture department for more than 10 years, previous to which he was Iceland's finance minister for three years.

Mathiesen will also continue in his senior advisor role at the Iceland Ocean Cluster in Reykjavik.
