Tilapia producer Regal Springs has appointed former Biomar CEO Torben Svejgaard as board chairman effective Feb. 1.

The appointment comes after Markus Haefeli announced he will be stepping down as chairman at the end of this month to pursue other business interests after he relocated from Singapore to London.

Regal Springs' new chairman only joined the board of Golden Springs, a key investor in international tilapia producer Regal Springs, Asian feed giant Gold Coin, and shrimp hatchery feed supplier SyAqua in October.

Svejgaard, an economist with over 30 years’ experience in the food sector at senior executive and board levels, stepped down from the helm of BioMar in 2014 after six and a half years, handing over to current CEO Carlos Diaz.

He was also previously chairman of TripleNine Group, board member of Germany-based processor Vega Salmon and chairman of DCH International, the Danish owned pork producer.

“I am delighted that Torben will be making his extensive seafood industry experience and skills available to Regal Springs and wish him every success in the role,” Annamaria Koerling, chairman of the Golden Springs board said.
