Calysta, a natural gas-based alternative feed producer, named Geoff Bryant as its new chief technology officer to take charge of product development and technology across Asia, the United States and Europe.

Bryant was formerly a technical and innovation director at meet substitute giant Quorn. He has more than two decades of experience in leading R&D efforts in the food and feed innovation sector.

In June, Calysta announced it would build its first commercial-scale facility in Chongqing’s Changshou district in China through its joint-venture with Chinese feed additives giant Blue Star Adisseo.

The newly appointed CTO will lead innovation activities for Calysta's joint venture with Adisseo in China.

The facility will supply the $28 billion (€25 billion) aquafeed ingredient industry in Asia, representing 70 percent of the global market.

The joint venture, under the name Calysseo, will produce 20,000 metric tons of the trademarked FeedKind protein by 2022, with plans to increase production capacity to 100,000 metric tons following expansion.

Other than BP, investors in Calysta include AquaSpark, Mitsui and Cargill.
