Norwegian salmon prices have continued to soften because the market is under pressure from an abundance of fish

"There is a lot of fish, that is still going up, prices are under pressure and down a little from last week," an exporter told IntraFish.

"During this period, it is not uncommon for prices to fall slightly, it is only due to large volumes," he said.

Exports of fish to China are being held back as the Asian nation continues to battle new COVID-19 outbreaks.

Another exporter is also seeing downward price pressure.

"The level has not settled yet, but it is clear, there is a lot of fish to be slaughtered at both ends," he said.

Not much industrial fish is being sent to China this week, the exporter said

"We have received an offer for 6+, which should have been sent to China today, but which has been canceled. It will be interesting to see how it turns out, and it will also affect prices."

Prices for the large industrial fish of 6 kilos or more range from NOK 55-85 (€5.31-8.21/$6.24-$9.65), the exporter noted.

Producers were hesitant on Friday as they try to avoid discounting fish.

"It has been a difficult day waiting," said a producer.

For fish weighing over 6 kilos, getting fish onto flights to Asia is proving difficult for some.

Another producer says he had not confirmed any sales, but like last week saw opportunities to get higher numbers for some sizes.

An IntraFish survey of market sources revealed the following prices.

3–4 kilos– NOK 48-53 (€4.63-5.12/$5.45-6.02)/ kg

4–5 kilos– NOK 49-54 (€4.73-5.21/$5.56-6.13)/ kg

5–6 kilos – NOK50–55 (€4.83-5.31/$5.67-6.24)/ kg

6+ kg –NOK 55-85 €5.31-8.21/$6.24-$9.65)/ kg
