When reporting on the original story of rampant shrimp overglazing in the European Union (EU) many of the involved companies had their shutters up, and declined IntraFish's requests for comment.
However, some of them attended this year's seafood show in Brussels, and IntraFish met them on the show floor, asking how 50 percent of frozen shrimp imported to Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands could have tested positive for short-weighing from overglazing.
"The practice is common in the market," a spokesperson of one company, which tested positive in the study conducted by the association of Belgian food importers Belgafood, said.
