Thai giant Charoen Pokphand Foods (CP Foods) announced new sustainability standards would be implemented for the group's aquaculture business, including a new standard for sourcing raw materials in Thailand and overseas, dubbed CP Food Fishmeal Sourcing Restrictions.
The company committed to use byproduct fishmeal that is traceable and sourced from processing plants certified by the Global Standard for Responsible Supply (IFFO RS), as well as under the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
CP Foods currently sources all its byroduct fishmeal used in Thai operations from IFFO RS certified processing plants.
The company planted similar projects in its Vietnamese operations.
Dr. Sujint Thammasart, COO for CP Foods' aquaculture business, said that the projects in Vietnam and India were prototype models that needed to be expanded in other coastal areas.
