The Scottish government is facing opposition in its plans to increase salmon production to 210,000 metric tons by 2020, reports The Scotsman.

A new campaign group, Friends of the Sound of Jura, was formed to fight the plans and an online petition has already attracted more than 200 signatures.

Fears over the problems with sea lice based on official figures are prompting concern among protesters, who claim the farm would discharge huge amounts of organic waste creating dead-zones and encouraging potentially harmful algal blooms.
