It was a strong year for consolidation and investment in the Chilean salmon industry. Four major acquisitions took place in 2018, changing the structure of the industry with the formation of the world's second-largest salmon farmer and the first entry of Chinese capital into the country's salmon sector.

The investments show an increasing interest from national and international players, and pave the way for further consolidation.

Arturo Clement, president of the Chilean salmon farmers association SalmonChile, told IntraFish what he sees as the most important developments, challenges and opportunities the industry is facing.
