Irish aquaculture accelerator Hatch will operate a newly established Hawaii-based aquaculture accelerator and its associated investment fund.

The Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA), Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation (HSDC) and University of Hawaii’s UH Ventures are behind the Host Park-based accelerator already funded for the initial three years.

NELHA and Hatch aim to attract startups focusing on sustainable solutions for the aquaculture industry, such as innovative feed solutions, breakthrough technology in animal health, and farm and water management.

The accelerator projects support between 10 to 12 startups per year. The first round is expected to start in the fall of this year.

Hatch made 16 investments last year, completed two accelerator cohorts involving 14 global aquaculture startup companies. The portfolio companies already raised more than €6 million ($6.7 million).
