Last year, Morpol imported around 50,000 metric tons of salmon, Managing Director Jerry Malek told IntraFish. This year, the company will import around 70,000 metric tons.
“Around 80 percent of this is from Norway, and the rest comes from Scotland, the Faroes and Ireland. We are also increasing the amount of wild salmon from Alaska we are buying,” said Malek.
Just as the volumes Morpol imports have increased, the company’s turnover has steadily grown. Five years ago, it was €70 million ($100 million); now it tops €300 million.
