They are known for their farmed Atlantic salmon, but Icicle Seafoods-owned American Gold Seafoods is conducting an experiment with farmed black cod, Icicle Vice President of Aquaculture Alan Cook told IntraFish.

"Black cod is a pretty attractive species for farming," Cook said, adding the fish can claim $22 (€17) per pound in Asia. "The growth on them is amazing."

Icicle purchased juveniles from Troutlodge and put 20,000 thousand black cod in National Marine Fisheries Service-owned cages adjacent at the Icicle farm off of Bainbridge Island, Washington, in summer of 2011.
