The shipping and investment company Eimskip, which sits on considerable shareholdings in a number of the country’s stock exchange-quoted fisheries companies, recently took over the exchange-listed fisheries company UA and has also purchased the share majority in Skagstrendingur. As UA no longer meets the stock exchange’s minimum criteria, the share will be struck off the ICEX list. Icelandic analysts expect that UA and Skagstrendingur will merge, and form a company that will be equal in size to Samherji - still the country’s largest company in the sector.
