An insurer for the Norwegian aquaculture industry has said that Norwegian salmon breeders must cover at least 20 percent of the losses from the ongoing algal bloom, reports IntraFish sister publication DN.

Norway's algal bloom has now claimed 11,600 metric tons of salmon, affecting nine companies in total, according to the latest updates.

All salmon breeders have insurance covering algal blooms but only the cost of exposing smolt, feeding and work up to the time of the injury.
