Three seafood processors received warning letters from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently, after inspections found the companies violated food safety regulations:

  • Comercial Mares de Chiloe in Chile for their salmon and trout products; in particular, the FDA found traces of listeria pathogens in portions of raw salmon meant for raw consumption.
  • Greece-based Pavlos Trifonidis SA's operations for packed tuna and salted anchovies
  • Shree Datt Aquaculture Farms in India for cooked shrimp

US-based Whitsons Food Service Bronx, Corp. was also sent a warning letter for their ready-to-eat (RTE) seafood meals.

The companies have 15 days to respond in writing to the FDA. Without a response, the FDA can take action "up to and including shutting down operations."
