Eide, who joined Pan Fish as a board member in 2003 and stepped into the CEO position later that year, was the key architect of that firm's takeover of Fjord Seafood and Marine Harvest, events that capped a radical restructuring of the global salmon industry.
Eide told IntraFish Friday he discussed his decision with the board at the earliest stages of the merger process.
"We are practical people; we had a lot to do. But we had an understanding I would step aside," Eide said.
