Final Fish 2.0 cash prizes winners announced

The six winners will compete for the Professional Service Awards, Open Door Prizes in mid-December.

Fish 2.0 announced the six sustainable seafood businesses awarded the cash prize of 2015 at the Competition Finals & Sustainable Seafood Innovation Forum Wednesday.

The competition, which seeks for creative approaches to key challenges in aquaculture, is divided into three different categories.

The pre-revenue startup category selects the businesses showing the strongest market potential, the post-revenue early stage category, and the growth-stage category, where the winners are recognized as impact leaders.

The six companies awarded were Kampachi Farms Mexico, Nova Scotia–based SabrTech, California-based Salty Girl Seafood, California- and Chile-based venture Bureo, Alaska Community Seafood Hub, and ALFA Fishing of Vanuatu.

The companies received $5,000 (€4,644) each, and will participate, together with the other 31 shortlisted businesses , at the mid-December ceremony awards for Professional Service Awards, whose prize is $150,000 (€139,321) plus an additional $45,000 (€41,796) for Pacific Islands businesses, and the Open Door Prizes, which provide unparalleled access to top-level industry buyers and analysts and training.

“This is great recognition,” said Norah Eddy, co-founder of Salty Girl Seafood. “We’re blown away. Our team is really excited. The impact in our track was so impressive, we were honored to be up there with our colleagues.”
