IntraFish's inaugural Women in Seafood Leadership Summit in Seattle on June 6 went with a bang.

The event brought some of the industry's most prominent and promising female executives together to talk about one of the seafood industry’s biggest challenges: bringing more women into the sector.

Around 120 delegates attended the event at the Westin Hotel -- and 95 percent of them were women.

The list of high-profile speakers included Torunn Knoph Halhjem, senior director global species at Trident Seafoods; Carrie Brownstein, global seafood quality standards coordinator at Whole Foods Market; Libby Woodhatch, head of advocacy at Seafish; Alexa Tonkovich, executive director at ASMI; and Hannah Lindoff, international program director at ASMI.

Also sharing their stories were Jacqueline Claudia, CEO of LoveTheWild; Magdalena Lamprecht, who formerly worked with Regal Springs; as well as Daniela Klimsova, director business development and marketing at Icicle Seafoods

IntraFish Editor Rachel Mutter emceed the event, which was sponsored by Trident Seafoods, ASMI, The Aleutian Pribilof Island Community Development Association (APICDA), Kuhlberra Barramundi USA and Discovery Health.

IntraFish first launched the Women in Seafood initiative with a series of interviews with key female leaders in 2015 and earlier this year, IntraFish conducted a survey together with the UK Seafish Industry Authority that found the industry needs to address serious challenges to attract and retain female talent.
