The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) has officially changed its name to the Global Seafood Alliance following votes by the GAA board of directors and the board of directors of its sister organization, Global Seafood Assurances.

The new name reflects the merger and the nonprofit organization’s growing involvement in wild fisheries through the addition of two new standards.

GAA recently added the Seafood Processing Plant Standard Issue 5.0, while sister organization Global Seafood Assurances released the Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard.

Additionally, as GAA transitions to the Global Seafood Alliance this year, its GOAL event has expanded its scope to include both aquaculture and wild fisheries content.

In January, the organization named seafood veteran Brian Perkins as chief operating officer as part of its expansion plan.
