Chilean agri-food giant Agrosuper and California-based smoked salmon producer Santa Barbara Smokehouse (SBS) are continuing their battle in court over whether the Chilean company's subsidiary, AquaChile, breached its contract and marred a potential sale of the smokehouse to an unnamed buyer by refusing to supply salmon.

A California district court has set a jury trial for the case to be heard for February 2022. Santa Barbara initiated the complaint against Agrosuper in December of 2019.

Lawyers for Santa Barbara CEO Tim Brown said a potential sale of the business was four months into due diligence when AquaChile abruptly cut off its supply and terminated its business with the company, a move that "scuttled" the anticipated deal.
