Chilean salmon farming group Salmones Camanchaca has been hit by a new wave of algal bloom activity, this time costing the producer the lives of 500,000 fish and estimated financial losses running to $2.3 million (€2 million).

The 600 tons of lost biomass is equal to 4 percent of company's total fish, Camanchaca said in an announcement to the Santiago stock exchange.

The latest latest bloom is affecting three production centers in the Comau fjord of the Los Lagos region: Leptepu, Porcelana and Loncochalgua.
