The new 86-meter factory-trawler Barents Sea, the first fishing vessel of its size to be built in Russia in 30 years, is on its way to the Barents Sea for its first fishing trip.

The vessel, the first in a series of four vessels ordered by Russian fisheries giant Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet's (ATF) from the St. Petersburg-based Vyborg shipyard.

The vessel will call in Aalesund, Norway on its way to the fishing grounds, where it will get final adjustments during a week of sea trials, Nikolai Nazarenko, deputy director for fleet development and operation at ATF parent North West Fishing Consortium (SZRK), told IntraFish.
