The decision by Spanish bluefin tuna ranching giant Grupo Ricardo Fuentes to sell off its seabream and sea bass businesses is part of a plan to focus on the company's strong points.

The Murcia, Spain-based company has spent more than three decades building a world leading position in the production of bluefin tuna, a company spokesperson told IntraFish.

"It is a strategic decision that reinforces our specialization," the spokesperson said.

Grupo Ricardo Fuentes annually produces 16,000 metric tons of bluefin tuna at operations in Spain, Portugal, Tunisia and Morocco, selling to more than 20 countries.
