Gaso Hovding, the world's largest salmon farming wellboat was launched at Turkey's Sefine shipyard earlier this month.

The new boat -- which is 83.2 meters long and 30.9 meters wide and has a hold of 7,500 cubic meters -- will be operated by Norwegian wellboat operator Froy Rederi.

"There are currently no wellboats to compare it with," Froy Operations Director Oddleif Wigdahl said.

Six Froy employees are currently working at the Sefine shipyard, where steel cutting began about a year ago.

Froy has a raft of five wellboats under construction, four of which are expected to be completed in 2021.

Gaso Hovding will handed over to Froy this summer. The wellboat beats Ronja Storm in capacity, previously considered the largest in the industry.

Froy Rederi is controlled by the largest single shareholder in Norway Royal Salmon, Helge Gaso.

Gaso has been on an investment run in the sector. He recently increased his stake in Norwegian cod farmer Norcod, just the latest sign of bullish investor sentiment for the group, according to analysts at ABG Sundal Collier.
