The COVID-19 pandemic has fueled several US businesses to rethink how seafood is sold to consumers. For New Bedford, Massachusetts-based startup KnowSeafood, a direct-to-consumer model cuts out the middlemen, removing the risk of fish fraud and mislabeling, according to the startup's co-founder Daniel McQuade.

The direct-to-consumer company offers an array of sustainable and fully traceable seafood authenticated by blockchain technology to include salmon, lobster, shrimp and tuna.

"We don’t market our own seafood, we market harvesters' seafood," he told IntraFish.
