A judge has given the go-ahead for the contentious sale of a bankrupt US seafood supplier, a ruling that clears the way for Canadian seafood giant Cooke Inc. to take over the assets.

Following a video hearing Thursday, US Bankruptcy Judge Melvin S. Hoffman approved a preliminary motion by New Bedford, Massachusetts-based Mariner Seafood LLC to proceed with the sale of its assets to Cooke subsidiary True North, despite earlier objections and a request for more investigation into the deal by a committee of unsecured creditors.
