Australian land-based barramundi farmer Mainstream Aquaculture is exploring a potential expansion of its sales and operations in the US market, hoping to capitalize on growing demand for locally produced seafood, CEO Boris Musa told IntraFish.

"Being able to grow fish in emerging markets at a very low cost and export that product into developed markets paying a higher price are not as attractive commercially as they once were," Musa said, citing the obvious limitations around global freight and the reduced competitiveness in growing fish in emerging markets.
