Aquaculture technology startup Ace Aquatec recently snatched investment from the Scottish tech duo Chris van der Kuyl and Paddy Burns as its fish stunner product enters the next phase of expansion.
As ethical farming and food security move up the global agenda post-coronavirus, Ace Aquatec is growing its team and regional support network over the next few months.
“Aquaculture is set to grow even quicker post-Covid and is seen by many commentators as one of the key drivers to address the onset of a global food crisis," said Nathan Pyne-Carter, CEO of Ace Aquatech.
Van der Kuyl will also join Ace Aquatec's board as part of the investment.
The tech duo are best known from 4J Studios, the Scottish video game developers of Minecraft Console Edition.
In November, sustainable aquaculture fund Aqua-Spark invested in Ace Aquatec to drive its product into the market on a larger scale.
Ace Aquatec's equipment is primarily focused on the adoption of responsible marine practices.
Its electric fish stunner is currently installed in markets such as Chile, New Zealand, Norway, Alaska and Denmark, but demand from other countries has been growing.
The company currently supplies several big players such as Scottish Sea Farms and Loch Duart, and is on track for record revenues in 2020 as it prepares for product, partnership and customer announcements.
