Faroese salmon producer Bakkafrost is planning on investing around DKK 350 million (€46.9 million/$50.8 million) annually into the recently acquired The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) over the next four years, part of an ambitious turnaround plan for the group.

The primary focus of the investments is ensuring smolt self-sufficiency, Bakkafrost CFO Hogni Dahl Jakobsen told IntraFish.

The company plans to construct a new modern recirculation plant for smolt production to begin replacing multiple SSC facilities.

The new facility will focus on larger smolts, rather than the smaller sizes SSC has been rearing up until now.
