Norwegian salmon farmer Nordlaks is temporarily laying off around 100 seasonal employees at its factory.

At present, Nordlaks does not have enough fish for harvesting or processing, which is why the company will temporarily shutdown its factory until March 9.

"We are not permanently laying off employees," Nordlaks Head of Communications Lars Fredrik Martinussen told IntraFish. "This is a temporary situation, which has repeated itself on a yearly basis, every winter, for many years."

Due to the regulation of salmon production, which dictates the same maximum biomass throughout the year, production varies with the changing natural conditions over the year.
