Norway's salmon industry earned a combined NOK 19 billion (€1.9 billion/$2.1 billion) to NOK 20 billion (€2 billion/$2.2 billion) in profits before tax in 2019, according to Lars Liabo, chairman of Norway-based analytical firm Kontali.

But while the figure is significant, Liabo said, regulations and taxes are keeping a lid on production growth.

Last year's earnings are lower than in previous years. For example, current values are 17 percent less than the peak year of 2016.
