Ecuador’s Tuna Conservation Group (Tunacons) said a new legal framework for fishing in Ecuador along with a set of strategies for tuna fishing to ensure a comprehensive fishery management scheme and be more competitive in the markets will be published soon.

This comes after the European Commission warned Ecuador that it must step up actions to fight illegal unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The process is expected to be completed over the coming weeks after which the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries will issue a Ministerial Agreement that will formalize plans for implementation.
