Russian fishery researchers discovered a huge number of large-sized pollock in the Chukotka Sea -- a major shift that indicates huge potential shifts in the world's largest whitefish fishery.

According to preliminary estimates, the number of pollock increased by more than 50 times compared with data from last year’s stock survey.

“This is a very large volume of pollock of older ages, spread throughout the sea," said Alexey Orlov, chief researcher of the All- Russian Fisheries Research Institute (VNIRO).
