Salmon farmer AquaChile said it has completed the expansion of its 140,000-metric-ton Quellon processing plant in Chile's southern Los Lagos region, which the company claims is now the largest salmon plant in the world.
The company invested $21 million (€19.1 million) in the plant expansion, which now processes half of its production. The 8,000-square-meter facility employs 1,000 workers.
“It is a world-class installation, with cutting-edge technology, automation and control of production processes," said AquaChile Industrial Manager Juan Pablo Rodríguez. "In addition, we have the main certifications such as ISO, ASC, BAP, IFS, Halal and Kosher.”
AquaChile's earnings surged about 21 percent in the first six months of this year compared to last year due to increased volumes of fish sold at a higher selling prices.
Early this year, Chilean agro-fiant Agrosuper completed its acquisition of AquaChile for $850 million (€774.7 million), marking another consolidation milestone in the Chilean sector.
