Leroy reports mortality onsite
The ongoing algal bloom in Northern Norway has now hit four new sites in Troms, three of them owned by public-listed company Leroy.

Mortality reported in Ofotfjorden
No algae-related mortality has been reported in Troms, however, some discoloration appears in a number of the sites in the area.
The concentration of algae in the the inner part of Ofotfjorden, Nordland remains high, while the west has lower amounts.

Algae levels may be falling, authorities remain on standby.
There are signs of lower algae numbers and that the bloom/species is less harmful. High concentrations of algae have continued without causing fish to die and algae bloom may appear in smaller areas, Norway's Fisheries Directorate reports.
Authorities plan to continue to make daily assessments and gradually step down emergency preparedness over the week if the situation improves further.

Algae now becoming 'less toxic'
Researchers at the Marine Research Institute said the Chrysochromulina leadbeateri bloom spreading in northern Norway is "becoming less harmful," but that it is impossible to know for how long the bloom will last.
"In other blooms we have observed that the algae have less of an impact on fish during the ‘tail’ of the bloom," said Lars-Johan Naustvoll, an expert on algae.
“We can see signs of that happening now: in some areas there is now roughly as much algae as there was in areas where fish died, but fewer fish are dying in these new areas."
The duration will depend on the environmental conditions, he said, adding that when these are no longer optimal for the algae it will die off.

Algae still spreading in Nordland
The Directorate of Fisheries of Norway said Monday there is still a high presence of algae in Norway causing salmon mortalities.
The bloom is still spreading, although it has not hit new farms over the past 24 hours.
"The algae concentration still requires high readiness," the update said.
In Troms, there concentration of the algae is still high, but mortalities slowed down in the area.

Monday Update: 7.1 million farmed salmon lost to algal bloom
The algal bloom had wiped out a value of around 7.1 million fish by Sunday May 26, the Norwegian Fisheries Directorate reports.
Losses in Nordland county ran to 3.7 million fish (6,400 metric tons) with Troms having lost 4 million (Troms 6,800 metric tons).
Without specifying figures the directorate said on Monday May 27 that "there is still a spread of fish mortality in Nordland" amid high concentrations of algae in both counties.

Nine companies hit by bloom, 11,600 metric tons of salmon dead
Norway's algal bloom has now claimed 11,600 metric tons of salmon, and is still ongoing, Norway's Directorate of Fisheries said Wednesday in update on the level of mortalities caused by the bloom hitting salmon farms in Troms and Nordland.

SalMar harvests site at risk of being hit by bloom
