Maine-based nonprofit citizen group Upstream Watch and the Maine Lobstering Union (MLU) have teamed up to oppose Nordic Aquafarms' land-based salmon project, citing issues with the company's pending application for a submerged lands lease.

On Wednesday the groups filed their second legal brief opposing Nordic Aquafarms' submerged lands lease application, stating the company doesn't have “title, right, or interest” to cross private property owned by local residents in Belfast, Maine, where construction was slated to begin this summer.

"This is a regular thing from Upstream Watch, there's no point playing cat and mouse," Nordic AquaFarms CEO Erik Heim told IntraFish in response to the filings.
